Computer Resources for CFANS Students

Your CFANS Office of Information Technology (OIT) welcomes you to CFANS. Throughout your education, we will strive to meet your computing needs quickly and efficiently.

It is our goal to use your student technology fees to make technology easily accessible. Some of the services offered by CFANS OIT and by the University are listed below.

CFANS student computer labs
Providing sufficient computer accessibility for CFANS students is a top priority. Our numerous computer labs throughout the St. Paul Campus  have modern hardware and frequently updated software so that no matter what you are using in your classes, you will find it in the CFANS computer labs. Information about software, hours, and locations can be found on the lab website.

You must have your Active Directory account activated before you can log on to computers in the CFANS Student Computer Labs. Activation is easy and takes about 30 seconds. Activate Your AD Account at http://www.umn.edu/myaccount

Maintenance hours:
The labs will be unavailable during the following times for regularly scheduled maintenance.
Mon, Tues, Thurs, Sat, Sun - 12:00 - 1:00 AM
Wed, Fri - 12:00 - 6:00 AM

Laptop Checkout Program
If you are in need of a laptop to do class work at home or to work with a group on a project, but you are not ready to invest in your own laptop, take advantage of the CFANS Laptop Checkout Program.

CFANS students can check out a Dell laptop for up to one week at a time at no charge.

Software available for CFANS students
CFANS students are eligible to download one free copy of Matlab, Mathematica, and Symantec Antivirus.

Students can get an upgrade to the latest Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office suites for a small fee through the Microsoft Campus Agreement Program for Students.

Information and links for obtaining statistical software such as JMP, SAS, and SPSS, are available via the UTools site.

Unique Software offers educational discounts for additional software titles not available through UTools.
