My Account (www.umn.edu/myaccount) is a central location where you can change your Internet and Enterprise passwords; manage e-mail account settings such as forwarding, auto reply, and blocked messages; and activate UMCal, Active Directory, and NetFiles accounts. My Account can also be reached with these addresses: www.umn.edu/dirtools and www.umn.edu/validate.
Change your Password (Passwords/Security) In this section, you can change your main University password for e-mail, Active Directory, UMCal, Netfiles, etc. Faculty and staff can also change their Enterprise passwords here. Students can set values for the Online Password Reset Service (faculty and staff are not currently eligible).
Show Blocked Incoming E-mail (Manage Your E-mail) If you are expecting an e-mail message that does not display in your inbox, the first place you should check is the Show Blocked Incoming E-mail section of My Account. This is where you will find the dates and senders' addresses of e-mails that were blocked. If a legitimate e-mail contact is blocked, you can make an exception for that address by clicking the link on the right, and then have the other party resend the message.
Incoming E-mail Controls (Manage Your E-mail) This feature allows you to manage how the University e-mail system detects spam on your account. You can block more spam by editing your allow/deny block sender lists. You can also set up an automated message to inform you when e-mails are blocked and put into a quarantine area for your review.
Current E-mail Storage Usage (Manage Your E-mail) This tool shows you how much space your inbox and folders are using. In order to keep your e-mail working well and to avoid Auto-Filing of e-mail, we recommend you keep the inbox below 20 MB, or 20480 KB. This will speed up how quickly mail is refreshed in your inbox. We also suggest creating folders and moving e-mail messages from the inbox to the folders to help reduce the size of your inbox.
Active Directory Account Options (Other Accounts) Activate your Active Directory account here. This account allows you to access computer resources in the University and CFANS computer labs.
Calendar Account Options (Other Accounts)
UMCal is the central calendar system available to faculty, staff, and students for the management of events, tasks, and contacts. You can easily choose to have the calendar display your course schedule, and you can view the schedules of University faculty and staff who use UMCal and suggest meeting times to professors or advisors. Before you can use UMCal, you must activate your account. With UMCAL, you can:
- Use the web-based client anywhere you have an Internet connection.
- Track group project meeting times and tasks for each group member.
- Determine who can view your calendar and how much information is public.
- Have the calendar display your course schedule
NetFiles Account Options (Other Accounts)
NetFiles is a file storage application with collaboration and sharing features available to all University faculty, staff, and students. In order to use NetFiles, you must first activate your account. NetFiles support is available at http://www1.umn.edu/netfiles/ to help users learn how to use the tool effectively and safely. With NetFiles, you can:
