CFANS offers students a fleet of 30 Dell laptops with expanded features available for up to one week at no charge from any of three libraries on the St. Paul Campus. These laptops have all of the software you find in the CFANS computer labs, as in the past, as well as SAS statistical software and Cisco VPN software to allow you to work on certain University systems from off-campus. All laptops have DVD +/- RW drives, wireless networking, and the ability to be plugged into a LCD projector for presentations.
In the first half of the fall semester, the 30 laptops were checked out nearly 50% of the time. In the second half of fall semester, that rate had risen to nearly 90%.
If a laptop is not available for checkout immediately, you may reserve the next available laptop by asking the librarian at any of the three libraries.
This program is made possible through the use of CFANS Student Technology Fees and therefore is only accessible to those students who have paid the current semester's technology fee to CFANS. Students interested in checking out or reserving a laptop should stop into or call one of the three libraries to setup a reservation.
The laptop check-out program is operated out of these CFANS libraries:
- Forestry Library - B50 Skok (map)
- EFW Library - 375 Hodson (map)
- Plant Pathology - 395 Borlaug (map)
Note: After 60 minutes of inactivity the laptop screen saver will go into affect and will require you to press Ctrl + Alt + Del on the keyboard and enter <cfansuser> as the User ID and <Welcome1> as the password in order to remove the screen saver lock and return to where you left off.
