Enhancing your site
Blogs
UThink blogs are available to the faculty, staff, and students of the University of Minnesota, and are intended to support teaching and learning, scholarly communication, and individual expression for the U of M community. The University Libraries offer this free service to the faculty, staff, and students of the University of Minnesota. Anyone with an active U of M Internet Account may login with his or her Internet ID and Password (your e-mail ID and password) and start blogging!

Wikis
UMWiki looks like a normal web site...except that it encourages contribution and editing of pages, questions, answers, comments and updates.

"Wiki" systems are fundamentally editable web pages. It's a useful way of communicating asynchronously over the web. TWiki is simple to learn and use. It aims to provide a transparent way for you to publish and exchange your ideas with others over the web.

Surveys, voting, and testing tools
UMSurvey (online surveys)
UMSurvey allows you to easily create surveys using just your web browser.

Custom programming of Surveys/Voting/Testing Tools
CFANS can provide custom solutions if you need enhanced security or tracking for a survey, test, or voting tool. Submit a request to cfans.help@umn.edu with your needs, and we will contact you to discuss your options.

Statistics
Google Analytics is an easy-to-use tool for learning how people use your web site. The charts are easy to understand, and the program can send you weekly reports by e-mail. Setting it up takes just a few minutes. If you need help setting up Google Analytics on your web site, please contact cfans.help@umn.edu.

UM Web Stats is a powerful log analysis tool that is perfect for investigating high volume web site activity quickly and easily. The web interface makes it easy to generate reports and graphs based on your web server's log files. If your site is hosted on a CFANS server and you would like to use UM Web Stats, please contact cfans.help@umn.edu.

Streaming Video
Media Mill, hosted by the College of Liberal Arts, provides you with the ability to archive your full-resolution video projects, without any quality loss and without a limit on how much content you can add. You can then make use of Media Mill's fine-tuned compression presets and high-speed servers to create compressed copies of your video to share with the world. You don't have to worry about finding somewhere to host the video, because the "Media-Mill" provides you with a link to your content that you can share with anyone.

Photographs
If you want to add images to your site, you have a number of options. CFANS has a photo database of faculty and students on the St. Paul campus. You can also visit the U of M Images Library or the Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station photo database. If those don't have what you're looking for, istockphoto.com, stock.xchng and morguefile offer free or inexpensive stock photography. Due to copyright regulations, it is not acceptable just to copy and use images that you find elsewhere on the internet.
