What if my Windows XP desktop icons don't appear? Once in awhile you may boot into Windows XP and find that the icons and toolbar do not appear. If you see only your desktop wallpaper, you can restore your icons with these few steps:
Press Control+Alt+Delete and choose Task Manager from the menu that appears
Choose File > New Task (Run...)
In the box that appears, type "explorer.exe" (no quotation marks)
