Office 2007 (Win) and 2008 (Mac)

Office 2007 for Windows and Office 2008 for Mac are the latest productivity suites offered by Microsoft. This software has become more prevalent within and outside of the University. CFANS OIT is now in the process of working with departments across the college to establish rollout plans for migrating to the new software.

What is new in Office 2007 for Windows
The University Technology Training Center has published a UMConnect presentation which highlights many of the new changes and features available. They also offer in-house courses along with tips and FAQ's.

What is new in Office 2008 for Mac
Office 2008 offers a number of new features along with providing a performance boost when running on new Mac's with Intel CPUs.

Preview
Are you interested in getting a sneak peak of the new user interface? A preview of the Office suite is available from Microsoft. You also can try out the new software in any CFANS OIT Computer Lab, as they were upgraded to Office 2007 this past summer.
Note: The preview of the Office suite is only compatible with Internet Explorer.

Do you have trouble opening .docx, .xlsx, .pptx files?
Office 2007 and 2008 use new file formats. If you have Office 2003 for Windows or Office 2004 for Mac and you are not ready to upgrade yet, you can still open files in the new format. Test your system to see if you can open files saved in the new file format by using our File Format Test File. If you are having issues opening files created in the new file formats, send an e-mail to cfans.help@umn.edu.
