Computers and Software

CFANS OIT staff are committed to supporting the productivity of University of Minnesota staff and students by keeping University computers and related electronic devices operating efficiently to the best of our ability.

CFANS OIT staff will order, set up, support, and retire computers and other hardware. We can also help you to access and install software available through the University and other sources and secure your computers against physical and electronic threats. If there is something additional you would like to see described here, please let us know by contacting the help desk at cfans.help@umn.edu.

If you are considering purchasing a new computer or other hardware, or if you are ready to recycle or re-purpose an old computer, please send a request for assistance to cfans.help@umn.edu.

Software available
Links to software available for University-owned and for personal computers, as well as software available especially for students through CFANs can be found here. If you wonder what is installed on the standard CFANS "image" when you get your new computer or would like a list of software supported and installed by CFANS in the student labs, that information is also here.
