Anti-Virus Software

All computers connected to the University of Minnesota network are required to have current and active antivirus software running at all times. Each time you save a file or insert a USB flashdrive or CD/DVD into a system, Symantec Antivirus will quickly scan the files to make sure they are free of viruses. In the event a virus is found, a message will pop up warning you of the discovery. Next, the program will automatically try to fix the virus and, if it cannot, the file will be deleted or quarantined from the system. If you do have a disc or USB flashdrive with a virus on it, you should format it before plugging it into any other computer or you may infect that machine.
